Sustainability Matters

Three curated exhibits brought to us by new conservation non-profit, Sustainability Matters. Independent curator, Trudi Van Dyke conceived the complimentary exhibitions by inviting artists to create work that engages the viewer to reflect their appreciation for the natural environment of the Virginia woodland and share it with viewers through their artistic perceptions. Clarke County Collective Exhibit

Luis Lamothe Duribe

Born in Havana, Cuba, Luis Lamothe Duribe is an extraordinary artist who creates images of the land of his birth in whimsical, black-and-white linoleum prints.  Lamothe then prints -- on a small, handpress -- exceedingly small runs of his works, usually printing only 15 copies of the pieces he has spent a month or more carving into used floor linoleum.

Abigail Gómez Exhibit: Raíces

Inspired by her Cuban heritage, visual artist Abigail Gómez presents vibrant and expressive "universally accessible" mixed  media paintings in the series Raíces (Roots). Abigail is a teaching artist, arts advocate, and is the owner of Pretty Girl Painting. Abigail also facilitates international community mural projects in the US, the Dominican Republic and in Cuba, and arranges legal art and cultural tours to Cuba for small groups of Americans. Artist Statement Ten years ago influenced by the charming illustrations of Calef Brown and animal drawings by outsider artists like Rev. R.A. Earth Wind and Fire Exhibit

Gary Smith has lived and worked in Berryville and Winchester for 40 years. He developed a passion for woodworking in his teens and has been chasing the dream of creating wood sculpture, furniture and saving pieces of wood from the woodstove ever since.
