Thanks to Loudoun Mutual for sponsoring this event!
We all live in Vana-Võromaa (old historical Võromaa in South-East Estonia), where the local dialect and culture are still strong and very much alive. Vana-Võromaa is a cultural district in a green, hilly region with many lakes. Even though it isn’t densely populated, every village has its own character and many folk tunes’ names refer to the villages they originate from. As every region in Estonia, it has a long tradition of dancing, music and singing and this cultural heritage lives on in both archives and living traditions.
Most members of WWW live in their farm houses in the countryside. Our youngest member is only 7 years old and there is no age limit for those who want to play Vana-Võromaa music. The leaders of this mixed age folk music group, Kadri Laube, Kadri Lepasson and Ott Kaasik, are well-known and appreciated folk musicians.
Every week the orchestra members get individual lessons from their teachers and then meet once a month to have a very intensive all-day-long rehearsal with the whole orchestra.
