For those of you who enjoyed Kipyn Martin previous appearances at the Barns of Rose Hill performing in Joan & Joni – A Tribute to the Music of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell or her Dance Across the Sky CD Release Show in 2017, you get another chance to hear Kipyn when she returns to the Barns of Rose Hill, this time as part of the fierce, funky, folk trio Lloyd Martin Vox!
During years of relentless solo touring, folk songstresses Heather Aubrey Lloyd, Kipyn Martin and Victoria Vox often co-billed as one duo or the other. When all three finally wound up on the same stage last year, they had an idea: Let’s be a band for a night, featuring ukulele, mouth trumpet, bass, hand percussion, finger-picked guitar and big harmonies.
With the huge success of that show in Baltimore (and another after that) … Lloyd Martin and Vox was born. Marrying Vox’s renowned mouth trumpet and ukulele prowess, Martin’s flawless folk songwriting and vocals and Lloyd’s powerhouse percussion makes this trio a little bit funky, a little bit folky and definitely fierce. Three of the most signature, polished voices on the folk/acoustic scene also make for rich harmony throughout the group’s re-imagined covers and original tunes, which have garnered the songwriters each prestigious honors, among them: appearances on the Jay Leno Show, numerous songwriting and performance awards in 2017 alone (including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Mid-Atlantic Song Contest), TWO Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Most Wanted Artists and dozens of Washington Area Music nominations and awards between them. With Vox now calling California home, their shows together in the MD/DC area are rare and special – Don’t miss this one!
Shanna in a Dress is your quirky best friend who refuses to wear pants. A smashing combination of humor, truth, and poignancy all wrapped up in a sweet voice, this witty wordsmith calls what she does “snarky folk pop from a clever millennial who sucks at dating.” She has been performing since her days at the University of Virginia where she attracted a loyal following of fans that loved her feel-good energy, catchy melodies, and entertainingly interactive stage banter.
Doors open at 7:30 PM and show starts at 8:00 PM
