“Justine is a self-taught artist who began quilting in the late 90s, using classic techniques of machine applique and strip piecing methods. Clothing became the main product during years of vending music festivals and local craft shows. Quilts continued to be crafted occasionally and gifted to friends and family, but it wasn’t until 2016 when her art shifted. It was a quilt show right here at Barns of Rose Hill where it occurred to Justine that there were absolutely no rules in art, specifically, in quilt making. Then, the magic of fabric transformation flourished and grew. Motherhood allowed her to slow down, working in sporadic time segments of pieces that were elaborate and well thought-out.
Most commonly inspired by nature, Justine brings elements of wildlife, geometry, heritage, music, and more recently, passion about social justice into her work. Always striving for deep color contrasts and scouring the internet for new techniques, Justine’s style is broad and diverse. The hand dyed fabrics she uses add depth and dimension, combined with striking contemporary prints to create pieces of art in various sizes.
Justine resides in WV, with her 4 children and husband
