Artist Statement

Exploring themes on the social human experience through organic elements, nature, and living beings are an instinctual essence in my work. My life is a web of experiences interwoven through relationships, living beings, the environment, the quest for truth and non-judgement. These fundamental factors are my driving force in my artistic journey.

My inspiration comes from components found in nature, cave paintings, my travels, walks in the woods, and observing animal behavior. I am most interested in how the various pieces of flora grow effortlessly together creating patterns of absolute perfection, and the honesty demonstrated by fauna resulting in a powerful effect to be more truthful in my life and work.

Horses and other animals, with all their equity, and in their natural surroundings provide a wonderful framework of exploration for provoking themes surrounding resurrection, rebirth, death, group-think, humility, respect, suffering, and love. Using texture, and many layers of subtle color, and at times adding organic media including bones, hoof trimmings, horse hair and feathers, is my humble attempt at recreating nature’s subtle patterns with the goal of fostering harmony with the everyday, and universal aspects of life.

Thus far, I have observed 10 essential elements in nature. These elements are rooted in my daily routine, and in my work. In simple words they can be described as EARTHY, ROUGH, TEXTURED, SMOOTH, POLISHED, IRREGULAR, DEEP, SENSUAL, UNPRETENTIOUS, and SIMPLE. All I paint has its basis in one or more of these descriptors. Everything I live for is anchored by peace and harmony in life, with nature.
