October 9 @ 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Join the Rose Hill Chamber Orchestra in our return to the Barns with a concert on October 9 to celebrate our recent gift of a dual manual harpsichord. What better way to celebrate this wonderful instrument than with a performance of Bach’s beloved Brandenburg Concerto #5, one of the first pieces ever written to feature the harpsichord as a solo instrument. Then, with a piece written 200 years later, we show how 20th century composers continued to find the harpsichord an instrument rich with musical potential, as we perform the Concerto for Harpsichord by Manuel De Falla.
Partnering with the Baroque sounds of Bach, we open the concert with a Concerto Grosso by Charles Avison, a little-known late Baroque master whose music directly leads to the next great musical era, the early classical period.
We close the concert with the lush Romanticism of Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, written as a gift to his wife, Cosima, on the birth of their son. This work of tender lyricism has remained an audience favorite since its premiere, early on Christmas morning in 1870, with the musicians gathered at the base of the staircase leading to Cosima’s bedroom. What a wonderful way to awaken on Christmas morning!
This is certain to be a concert you will not want to miss.
