In the 1970s, British actor Leon Vitali gave up a promising career to sign on as assistant to the late, legendary director, Stanley Kubrick. He performed many tasks, including casting director, acting coach, publicity agent and archiving /restoration. As such, he became integral to classic Kubrick films such as “The Shining” and “Full Metal Jacket.” The film thus becomes a hybrid biopic of both Kubrick and Vitali – but, above all, “a tribute to the unsung artisans, assistants, best boys and girl Fridays whose indelible contributions make movies not just possible, but magical” (Washington Post).
