This show is part of our 2025 Solo String Series!
About: Ken Kolodner, hailed as a “world-class instrumentalist” (Sing Out!), is a renowned hammered dulcimer artist and old-time fiddler based in Baltimore. A veteran performer, he has toured extensively as a soloist and with ensembles like Helicon, Greenfire, and Elke Baker. Today, he also performs with his son, Brad Kolodner, as part of The Ken and Brad Kolodner Quartet, which won first place in the 2019 neo-traditional band contest at Clifftop.
Beyond performing, Kolodner is a dedicated community builder. He co-founded the Baltimore Old-Time Jam and curates the Baltimore Old-Time Music Festival. He also leads the prestigious Sandbridge Hammered Dulcimer and Old-Time Fiddle Retreats, fostering a nationwide network of musicians. With over 20 recordings, Billboard-charting albums, instructional books, and performances at major venues like The Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap, Kolodner’s impact on traditional music is profound. A former scientist with a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins, he continues to innovate, teach, and perform, keeping the hammered dulcimer at the heart of old-time music.
