About: I Remember Christmas is based on two short stories by Truman Capote that have been adapted as a Radio Play by Bill Heavner. Capote’s "A Christmas Memory" is a poignant, largely autobiographical short story set in the 1930s, recounting the deep bond between a seven-year-old boy, Buddy, and his elderly cousin, whom he affectionately calls "my friend." The story centers around their cherished Christmas tradition of baking fruitcakes for distant acquaintances, including people they've never met. Through this simple ritual, Capote vividly captures the warmth and innocence of their relationship, set against the backdrop of rural poverty and the inexorable passage of time. The narrative beautifully evokes themes of nostalgia, friendship, and the bittersweet nature of memory as Buddy reflects on this special time in his life.
