We are delighted to be hosting the Clarke County Lions Club 2017 James Allen Bland Music Competition! Come out to support our talented local middle and high school student contestants as they showcase their vocal and instrumental musical talent and compete for the chance to advance to the next level of competition.

About the Competition:
The James A. Bland Music Scholarship Program was established by the Lions of Virginia in 1948 to assist and promote cultural and educational opportunities for musically talented youth of Virginia. High School and Middle School age students who live in Clarke County, attend school in Clarke County, or are home-schooled in Clarke County are eligible.

First Place Vocalist and Instrumentalist in the club-level competition will be invited to compete in the Zone Bland Competition which will be held in mid-March 2017 in the local area. If they are not available, the Second Place Winner will be asked to compete. Winners in the Zone Competition will be invited to compete in the District Competition to be held in early April in Harrisonburg. Winners of the six District Competitions will compete in the State Scholarship Competition during the Lions of Virginia State Convention on 26 May 2017 in Roanoke, Virginia. At the State competition, a $2,500 scholarship for 1st place vocalist and instrumentalist will be awarded, $2,000 for second place, $1,500 for third place, and $1,000 for fourth through sixth place.
