A Night in Bohemia
April 4 @ 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Let the Rose Hill Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Jon Goldberg, entice you with lush melodies, Eastern European rhythms and Nursery Rhymes! Featuring the music of Bohemia’s native sons, Leos Janacek, Antonin Dvorak and Joseph Suk, this will be a heady, tune filled evening. The evening starts with Suk’s captivating and sun drenched Serenade for Strings and ends with Dvorak’s wonderful Serenade in d minor for winds, all the more fitting as Suk was Dvorak’s son-in-law. Between music by those two relatives, the Rose Hill Chamber Orchestra will perform two amazing, and amazingly neglected, pieces by Janacek. Nursery Rhymes may indeed be Bohemian nursery rhymes, but this is definitely not children’s music. Set for a chamber choir and an ensemble that includes an ocarina and a toy drum, the music is sophisticated and demanding, without ever loosing it’s child-like essence. Janacek’s Capriccio is for piano left hand and an ensemble of brass and flute! The featured soloist is none other than crowd favorite, Eric Himy. Featuring some of Janacek’s most intimate music, the harmonies and melodies will make you feel you are hearing this in a small Bohemian village.
